Tonight Group 1 had a visit from UNH’s Student Nutrition Association.  The came in to talk to the Wildcat Friends about My Plate, the visual which helps people make healthy decisions about the food choices they make.  Several Wildcat Friends got a chance to guess the different portion sizes of granola, pasta, and milk.  It turns out that a serving size of granola is awfully small!  The Student Nutrition Association agreed with Amanda that you shouldn’t eat pizza that would be bigger than your face!!

Last night, group one learned about optical illusions.  We talked about how all of the different kinds of optical illusions are meant to trick you to make you think you’re looking at something you are not actually seeing.  We looked at examples of artists that have used optical illusions (MC Escher, Salvador Dali, Bridget Riley) and watched a couple of short videos that gave us a chance to see how optical illusions could fool us.

In Sheana’s class we had a visit from the UNH Marine Docents who taught us about echinoderms.  We learned there are five groups of echinoderms, including sea stars, sea urchins and sand dollars.  After a power point presentation, we rotated through three centers.

Wildcats had a lot of fun today at Hunter Hall and New Hampshire Hall! Over at Nesmith  both groups celebrated Valentine’s Day with activities using conversation hearts.  First, each person graphed the different colors that they found in their box.  Group 1 found a lot of yellows, and neither group had many purples!
